If elected Ukraine's president, the leader of the Party of Regions Viktor Yanukovych declared his readiness to start negotiations on the formation of a gas transporting consortium immediately after the ballot. The candidate for the presidential post announced this on Friday while appearing during a video media-conference at Davos held as part of the 6th Ukrainian lunch organized by Victor Pinchuk Foundation.
"Immediately after the elections I will start negotiations with our partners about how we are going to live so that we don't end up being a dog in the manger, when in another five years two gas pipelines deprive us of all transit," he stated. He was referring to planned pipelines that are to by-pass Ukraine.

Last year alone, Ukraine missed a chance to transmit 20 billion cubic meters of gas, he underlined, adding that that was very damaging to the country. He said the consortium proposal must be also put up for a public debate.
