Konstantin Zatulin, a Russia’s MP, is hoping that Ukraine and Russia will reach agreement on extension of the Russian Black Sea naval fleet’s lease on its base in Sevastopol beyond 2017.
«I am hoping that the Black Sea fleet will be based in the Crimea forever,» Zatulin said. According to him, the terms of the lease of the base and the lease rates could change after 2017. Zatulin also said that Russia was interested in having a naval fleet in the Crimea.

«It would be unfair and unnatural for our partner to expel the Russian Black Sea naval fleet from Sevastopol when NATO countries are planning to establish bases in Bulgaria and Romania, especially considering the fact that it built this city,» Zatulin said.

He expressed the hope that a decision on the presence of the Russian Black Sea naval fleet in the Crimea would be made in the interests of Ukraine and Russia. President Viktor Yanukovych has said that the decision on the presence of the Russian Black Sea naval fleet on Ukrainian territory should be coordinated by the presidents of Ukraine and Russia.
