Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has set the task to improve the quality of motor roads in the country to enable travelers cross Ukraine from west to east in 13 or 14 hours.
Vice Premier in charge of the Euro-2012 preparations Borys Kolesnikov said this in an interview. "The president set a task that the journey from the western border to Kyiv should take six hours, and from the eastern border to Kyiv seven hours. Our goal is to ensure that Ukraine could be crossed from west to east in 13 or 14 hours," Kolesnikov said.

According to the vice premier, the reconstruction of roads will allow the full use of transit potential of the country. "Imagine what transit possibilities our country will get… The railway is already overloaded to the maximum possible extent. Therefore, transport corridors through Ukraine to Rostov, Baku, the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus and Central Asia will undoubtedly be in demand," he said. At the same time, Kolesnikov said that most Ukrainian roads need serious repairs.
