The Ukrainian citizens not yet have to provide fingerprints to obtain a visa for travelling to EU countries, despite the introduction of the new EU Visa Code entering into force on 5 April, according to Olha Maksymenko, the press and information program coordinator of the EU Delegation to Ukraine.
According to her, not quite correct information on the EU Visa Code has recently appeared in the media. Several editions reported that from April 5 everybody wishing to obtain a visa at the consulates of EU member states have to provide their biometric data.

Maksymenko explained that the requirement to give fingerprints when drawing up visas will come into force in Ukraine only when the visa information system starts working. And for this all the consulates of EU countries have to install the necessary equipment. First of all, such system will be applied in countries of North Africa, the Persian Gulf and the Middle East. And we are not talking about Ukraine now, she said.
