The Ukrainian government has proposed signing a new agreement on cooperation with the International Monetary Fund.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said this at a meeting with IMF mission chief in Ukraine Thanos Arvanitis, the press office of the Cabinet of Ministers' secretariat reported.

Arvanitis said that significant progress had been made in gaining mutual understanding between the parties during the mission's work with the Finance Ministry and the Fuel and Energy Ministry, and added that the situation with Naftogaz of Ukraine had significantly improved.

"We believe that the Finance Ministry is on the right path in the context of improving budget revenues and optimizing expenditures. The IMF is ready to render technical assistance in drawing up measures on the improvement of the discipline of revenues, taking into account successful international experience," he said.

Arvanitis expressed support regarding the signing of a new cooperation agreement with the IMF, which he said would help the Ukrainian government start implementing strategic reforms in the economy and the country's banking sector.
