Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin has said that he is surprised by the upcoming debate in the Ukrainian parliament about the extension of the Russian Black Sea fleet's deployment in Sevastopol.
"The upcoming debates in the Rada came as a surprise to me. Yulia Volodymyrivna and I discussed the prolongation of the Russian fleet's stay in Sevastopol. And no one objected. At least in conversation with me, Yulia Volodymyrivna was ready to discuss the problem. The only question was the price," Putin told reporters after the talks with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.

According to him, the Ukrainian authorities demanded an exorbitant price - "$40-$45 billion for ten years." "This amount of money would be sufficient to build several bases, but we attach great importance to promoting cooperation with Ukraine," he said.
