World media have recently reported about a warning issued by the Romanian National Institute for Earth Physics concerning a possible earthquake that may be triggered by the Vrancea seismic zone located on Ukraine-Romania border in the Carpathians.
This area has recently experienced an intensified underground activity. Active seismic processes in the Vrancea area already occurred in 1927, 1940, 1977, 1986 and 1990. According to the Romanian geologists, the magnitude of the anticipated earthquake will be more powerful than that of in 1977 when over 15,000 people were killed in Bucharest, while residents of Ukrainian cities and villages were frightened by quakes of buildings, especially the high-rise ones.
